Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT)

Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a great tool for clearing stuck emotion around a traumatic memory.

Let’s look at an example: You had to give a speech. You froze and stuttered. Your words were all stilted. You could feel everyone’s eyes on you. You felt deep shame and embarassment, and went over and over it in your head for weeks.

When you think back to that memory, your chest gets all tight and you get a sick feeling in your stomach. This is your body’s way of making sure you never put yourself into a situation where you have to go through this again. It holds onto all that emotion to protect you. But its obviously not helpful to do so – it means that you are in fear mode at even the thought of talking in front of people and before long (especially if you avoid all sorts of situations of talking in front of people) that fear just grows and grows.

I use IEMT in my practice, sometimes as a stand alone tool, but most often as a tool to support clearing that we are working through. It is often helpful to do a round of IEMT to support MAP clearing work for example.
